Happy Birthday Little Sissy ♥

Today is my little sister Carii’s 22nd BIRTHDAY and today of all days I am feeling really mushy and kind of missing my little pookie. She is in college and I don’t really get to see her as much as I would like but I know that she is always a phone call away.

I am the oldest of 4 ( two little brothers and one little sister) and I have a older sister Tami who is to blame for my love of 90′s music but we will discuss that another time…

When Carii was born, I was so-ooo excited because it had been me and my little brother Leon mostly and I was ready for some more girl power. Leon and Carii are only a few years apart, so when she was born, Leon for some reason could not say the word “baby”. So when Carii would cry because she needed her diaper changed or she was just being greedy, Leon would say, “Momma, the duddie is crying…”; hence the nickname “Duddie” being born. I miss those days.

I am 9 years older than her but I promise she acts like she is my age. I remember growing up she was so-ooo bossy to where I told her, “You’re not my momma!” and she replied back, “But I can be…”. At that point I was done and I knew the crazy little sister that God had blessed me with.

My little duddie is also a big reason why I wanted my first child to be a baby girl. Carii is the most girliest of girls that I know. Between the two of us, she gets on me about wearing make up more often and she shops more than me but God wanted me to have a boy and I am happy that Clark will be here in September. When she found out I was pregnant, she made me go into the dressing room in Urban Outfitters, pulled up my shirt and immediately started talking to my belly. She is kinda crazy like that…:)

She is probably going to kill me for releasing her family nick name to the world wide web but I don’t care. hahahaha!

Happy Birthday to the best little sister I could wish for.

Thank you…

for always being there for me,

loving me unconditionally,

never judging me and trusting me with your secrets,

laughing at the craziest of things like barrel of money + superstar,

waking up to talking to me while I am on my way to work,

being a model + scout whenever I want to test out a new lens or location,

crying when I left for college because we both boo-who’d when it was your turn,

being my perfect movie date to chick flicks only because you scream too loud in the scary ones,

for not letting me be the only person who knows the lines to Clueless, Thin Line + Love & Basketball,

being my sister and friend.

I LOVE YOU!

FOR MY SISTER

I was sitting here thinking of the words I want to say,
but they just wouldn’t come out right so I found a different way
I got a piece of paper and I wrote this poem for you,
but there’s no way to thank you for everything you do
Your always being nice to me and staying by my side,
for helping fix my problems and never leaving me behind
Thanks  for accepting my thoughts and feelings,
though you do not understand, for never giving up
on me and being my best friend
For making me laugh and letting me cry
and saying you’d miss me if I were to die
Everything you mean to me you could never know
In all the ways you’ve changed my life I could never show
The way you take care of me,
you’re my shining star and though it’s so incredible
that’s just the way you are
Before I get too mushy it’s time for me to go,
but before I leave this ink-filled page there’s one
thing you should know
As long as we are living,
no matter when or where,
if you ever need me just call and I’ll be there
I’ll climb a thousand mountains and
swim a thousand seas anything to be there
’cause you’ve been there for me

Busy Bee ♥ My Life

Ok, so-ooo I know it seems like 50 years ago since the last time I blogged. Well…more like 3 months but I have a super good reason as to why. Wanna hear it? Here it go…

I got engaged on October 8, 2011 and since then, I have been hitting the ground running with planning, shooting weddings, packing, shooting sessions, meeting with vendors, shopping around for the perfect venue and everything else perfect to where I just did not have time dedicate to blogging. I’m sorry but…for those of you that are on Face to the Book, I have been posting and updating my fan page at www.facebook.com/cnarobertsphotography so you can mosey on over there and check it out.

In the mist of planning and prepping for the big day, I have been shooting numerous styled shoots with my new team, Chanteau Garrett of Jamar + Co, Rae Michele of Naturally Glam by Rae and Jeremy Phillips of C.R.O.S.S. by J. Phil. I promise they are super good at what they do and you will be pleased!!!

I signed up for a Mentorship with Latasha Haynes of Latasha Haynes Photography and that experience  was

totally awesome. I learned so-ooo much and gained a few new photog lady friends in the process to where I know you guys will be excited about what I have coming up in the works.

We got to shoot each other and…we even got to be shot by Latasha herself. Once you view her work, you will see why you can read the excitement in my voice… #imjustsaying (twitter talk…follow me by the way @cnarobertsphoto). She is something like the bomb (dot) com.

It was a lot of good food, sweet treats, learnings and laughter the entire time. Good times…

I even got a new headshot taken by her out of the deal. Honestly, I think this is the first picture that I have of myself with a camera in my hand where I am not dancing… For those that really know me, know that I am telling the truth.:)Sometimes you just have to let the music hit you and dance like no one is watching. Especially if it is music from the 90′s!!!

The very next week after the mentorship was the week of the wedding. I know, I was cutting it close but it was for a good cause so I had to make the sacrifice.

On April 1, 2012, I married the love of my life. I know, I know…kinda cliche’ but it is the truth!:)He is such a great guy! AND… to answer the question that everyone has been asking me… “Who were your wedding

photographers???”

I searched high and low…hahahahahahaha!!! Let me not even start to lie. I stuck with who I knew would do  a  bang up job, my friends. Carolyn Jones of Carolyn Loves Weddings and Brian Hurdle of B. Hurdle Photography - Two awesome friends of mine that had never met a day before in life, hit it off and I am super excited to see the images.

For those of you that have ever seen the movie, The Color Purple… “I’s married now!!!” #classic

Brian has already given Face to the Book a little teaser and I am so-ooo excited to see what other magic they captured in their lens. I have added some pics from our day in this post so you can see just how magically it was for us.

GOD IS GOOD!!!

A little momement alone…

 The Toast!

My God Son Amari LOVES Michael Jackson and the converse were my idea!!!:)

Ok, so now I have caught you up on the life of the busy bee that is me so I hope you forgive me.:)

Happy New Year!!!

I am the photographer that takes the pictures for families’ Christmas cards every year. This year, I figured since I am engaged that it is my time to send out cute and crafty cards! After talking to my husband to be, I went to the Dollar Store to scope out some finds to create my DIY backdrop. Total cost for my DIY backdrop was $17 + tax!!! Super SCORE!!!

The results were so-ooo great that way decided to create a DIY backdrop every year as our family tradition.:)

Featired in Munaluchi Bridal ♥ Tai + Ty E-Session

Oh yea, two in a row… God has really been blessing me! Two of my sessions were featured in two different publications and…I GOT ENGAGED!!!:)Super stoked for all that life brings. Check out my latest feature on Munaluchi Bridal of Tai and Ty’s Engagement Session.

What is Munaluchi???

Munaluchi Bride Magazine is the leading authority of bridal inspiration for women of color. Our stylish and chic print publication is released twice a year in major bookstores across the US and internationally, and digitally via our website. In between issues, our website provides modern style-savvy brides with daily inspiration ranging from gorgeous real weddings, creative e-sessions, and all kinds of wedding goodness. The name “Munaluchi” is a combination of two African names (one Ethiopian and the other Nigerian) which when fused together mean “Beautiful Work of God.” The name perfectly describes our target audience, as all women, regardless of race or ethnicity are beautiful in their own light. It was launched in 2010 by Jacqueline and Chike Nwobu after the realization that women of color are major contributors to the $160-billion wedding industry, but have minimal presence in most bridal print publications. Munaluchi Bride fills this void and provides the truest example that love comes in more than one shade
